WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Our Institute for Earth System Predictions (IESP) is seeking a post-degree or post-doctoral researcher to join our team in Lecce. This position will support our maritime research activities, with a particular emphasis on ship weather routing modelling. The initial work will be part of the MISSION and EDITO-Model Lab projects funded by Horizon Europe.

ROLE
The Maritime Research Modeller reports to the GOCO-Division Director and is responsible for research on understanding and mitigating the environmental impact of the shipping industry.


RESPONSIBILITIES
The Maritime Research Modeller will support the Maritime Research Unit, with:

  • research and identification of relevant academic and industry sources
  • maintenance and development of the VISIR-2 ship routing model
  • development and engineering of code prototypes
  • contribution to communication and scientific dissemination activities

REQUIREMENTS
  • Master Degree in Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, or Computer Science
  • For post-Doc: PhD in Mathematics, Physics, Engineering or Computer Science
  • Proficiency in Python
  • Experience with machine learning methods
  • Minimum 1 reference letter (for post-Degree candidates) or 2 (for post-Doc)
  • Very good knowledge of the English language
  • Accuracy and good analytical skills


DURATION, COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
  • Please note that this opportunity will be issued both internally and externally.
  • The Managers will be based in Lecce CMCC office.
  • The appointment period will be initially of 12 months starting from January 2025, with a gross annual salary range of 30-35 K Euro for the Post-Degree and 34-40 K Euro for the Post-Doc. Tenure can be granted from 2 to 4 years after being appointed as a junior researcher.
  • Welfare package, for minimum 12 months contract.

  • Support during the immigration process, if needed.
