JOB DESCRIPTION:

We are seeking a Maritime Warfare Exercise Planner to maintain and enhance the Maritime Warfare portion of the overall Exercise Execution Matrix (EXMAT) for Exercise Northern Strike. The ideal candidate will be a dynamic, experienced professional with a strong background in maritime operations and exercise planning, capable of coordinating complex training scenarios within a joint operational environment.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain the Maritime Warfare section of the EXMAT under the direction of the Maritime Planning Lead.
  • Participate in all Joint Exercise Life Cycle (JELC) events relevant to maritime operations.
  • Coordinate and synchronize maritime warfare training needs with other unit training requirements, ensuring integration into the overall EXMAT.
  • Provide comprehensive support during all phases of the JELC cycle, including scheduling, briefing, and executing combined arms rehearsals, rehearsals of concept, and sustainment rehearsals.
  • Assist in the development and updating of scenarios for Air Operations in Maritime Surface Warfare (AOMSW), including Surface Surveillance Coordination (SSC) and Strike Coordination and Reconnaissance (SCAR).
  • Provide on-scene exercise control from maritime vessels, facilitating effective training and scenario execution.
  • Offer planning guidance and updates to the Joint Task Force (JTF-85) rotational exercise commander and maritime lead planner.
  • Utilize multiple mission command and communications systems to control maritime exercise components during execution phases.
  • Ensure all planning and execution activities are documented through detailed reports and communicated via various formats including Word documents, PowerPoint presentations, emails, and phone updates.
  • Compile and submit an After-Action Report/Lessons Learned following each major JELC event to capture insights and improve future exercises.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience as a Surface Warfare Officer or equivalent, with demonstrated familiarity with Strike Group Staff (Carrier and/or Expeditionary) operations.
  • Proven expertise in maritime aviation integration and expeditionary operations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and professional radio communication techniques.
  • Familiarity with naval tactical data links and the roles of various maritime command structures.
  • Ability to embark and operate from small to medium-sized naval craft for on-scene exercise control.
  • Strong planning, coordination, and execution skills, capable of working effectively under pressure and within a dynamic team environment.


TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

Travel as required to various locations within the 54 states and territories and District of Columbia.
