WSP are looking for a Senior Project Manager to join the Ports & Maritime team based in the UK.

As part of the team, you will have an opportunity to complement the wide experience of a highly knowledgeable and dynamic team of Ports & Maritime experts based in the UK and across the globe.

As one of the team members you will play a pivotal role in delivering medium to large-scale and complex capital infrastructure in the UK and internationally for a variety of clients, ranging from local authorities to private clients and international port operators across all cargo sectors including breakbulk and containers, bulk and facilities supporting the energy transition.

You will be required to lead high-performing project teams across multiple workstreams and engineering disciplines. Your expertise will be crucial from project inception to completion, overseeing design, procurement, construction, commissioning, integration, and handover.

To excel in this position, you must bring exceptional leadership skills, emphasising collaboration and teamwork within a diverse technical and business environment. Your ability to navigate through technical and cultural intricacies and engage stakeholders will be vital to WSP and our client’s success.

You will guide clients and staff and support with business development and assist in the preparation of proposal activities.

Your role will be office based; however, you will have an opportunity to visit sites in the UK and internationally.

Your responsibilities will include:

Team & Communication:
• Provide direction and leadership to the team and support to successfully deliver their project responsibilities;
• Responsible for coordination and collaboration between disciplines and project stakeholders. Key to this is leveraging the business’ expertise, minimising silos and safeguarding the delivery of an integrated project.

Delivery:
• Oversee the delivery of the project in accordance with the agreed project success criteria, focussing on time, budget, scope, risk, safety, and handover;
• Continuous opportunity identification and optimisation of project scope, timeline, and budget to re-align (if necessary) with changing client drivers or to deliver improved performance against the current project success criteria.

Project Management:
• Creation, maintenance, implementation and obtaining approval of the Project Management Plan for how your proposed Project outputs will deliver the agreed success criteria;
• Commitment to using WSP project management procedures and standards for all areas of project controls and in line with the project governance structure;
• Ongoing project reporting and performance management, establishing leading and lagging indicators where appropriate;

Contract Management:
• Administer, implement, and maintain relevant contract and commercial administration systems and procedures, together with project controls functions;
• Internal and external stakeholder management (with internal contractual, commercial and legal functions, and externally with relevant third parties, for example, contractors, regulatory bodies or partners);
• Creation and review of technical inputs to draft contracts;
• Prepare and manage contractual and commercial strategies;
• Leadership of contractual dispute resolution and negotiation strategy;
• Identify and monitor contractual and commercial risks and opportunities within the project.

Advanced Spoken & Written Communication Skills:
• English (Must)
• French/Spanish (Desirable)

Leadership & Management Experiences:
• A track record of demonstrating strong leadership including, motivating, influencing, conflict management and inspiring, at a team level and to broader business peers;
• A track record of upholding key personal and business values and demonstrating relevant behaviours to support this across a range of management duties both internally and externally, to individuals and to a broader team and the business;
• Demonstrable experience of problem solving in a variety of situations from day-to-day to more complex and structured challenges to the project or business.

Professional Experience:
• Have a BEng/ MEng in Civil Engineering or similar/related qualification;
• Hold chartership status with a professional association or an advanced project, programme or portfolio management qualification, for example, ChPP (Association for Project Management (APM)), PMP (Project Management Institute (PMI)) or equivalent;
• Experience in a construction and ports and maritime environment;
• Experience in a project management role;
• First-hand experience in the use and critical review of project management tools across a range of areas including (but not limited to); project management plan (PMP), risk, change, contracts, schedule (Projects/P6), requirements, assumptions, performance;
• Responsible for delivering at least two large-scale and complex capital infrastructure projects (over GBP 50 million in construction costs);
• Confident presentation and effective communication to internal and external stakeholders in written and spoken English;
• Can demonstrate experience in leading or heavy involvement in the creation of construction contracts for a large-scale and complex project;
• Can demonstrate experience of common forms of contract, including NEC and FIDIC.
