Introduction

AMC Search is the Training and Consultancy arm of the Australian Maritime College (AMC).  Based in Launceston Tasmania, AMC Search serves the Australian and international maritime and defence industries. Utilising the Australian Maritime College's suite of maritime research, training and project resources, AMC Search can provide access to the largest range of facilities available in the southern hemisphere. These are supported by the personnel resources of the AMC, Australia's national maritime training, education and research institute.



Description

As an Autonomous Maritime Systems (AMS) – Instructor/Operator/Technician at AMC Search, you will be responsible for ensuring that training, consultancy projects and technical support activities are undertaken in accordance with our quality assurance processes. As part of our AMS team, you will provide subject matter expertise to develop new training offerings and consultancy services, investigate and solve technical issues and continuously improve our existing offerings to enhance their efficiency and performance. Aligned with your experience and expertise, the role will focus on Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) and Uncrewed Surface Vessels (USVs).

Your main tasks will include:

Training

  • Deliver training on the safe and effective operation of Autonomous Maritime Systems (AMS), i.e. Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) and Uncrewed Surface Vessels (USVs).
  • Support the delivery of technical training on Autonomous Maritime Systems (AMS), i.e. Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) and Uncrewed Surface Vessels (USVs).
  • Prepare and deliver training and assessment, in accordance with training requirements. 

Project & Consultancy Services

  • Conduct project and consultancy work pertaining to Autonomous Maritime Systems (AMS), i.e. Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) and Uncrewed Surface Vessels (USVs).
  • Support the delivery of other maritime related project and consultancy work within your area of expertise.

Technical Support 

  • Within your area of expertise: 
    • Provide support towards the planned maintenance of Autonomous Maritime Systems (AMS), i.e. Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) and Uncrewed Surface Vessels (USVs).
    • Support defect rectification activities on Autonomous Maritime Systems (AMS), i.e. Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) and Uncrewed Surface Vessels (USVs).

The position is offered as a 12-month contract with the opportunity for review and extension beyond this period. 

The position offers an exciting opportunity for the chosen candidate to contribute to the delivery of high-quality maritime and defence focused AMS training, consultancy projects and technical support. 



Skills And Experiences

The successful candidate will possess very strong interpersonal and communication skills, a proven ability to manage timelines and deliverables, a diligent approach and experience within the Maritime and/or Defence industries.

The key traits and expertise we are looking for are:

  • Experience in Defence or the Maritime Industry operating and supporting Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs).
  • Positive 'can do' attitude and the ability to integrate into and work effectively within a small team.  
  • Ability to effectively deliver high quality training on AMS operations and technical aspects.
  • Australian citizenship or an established pathway to it.

Desirable qualifications would include:

  • Experience in Defence or the Maritime Industry operating and supporting Uncrewed Surface Vessels (USVs).
  • Coxswains Qualification (or similar) and experience operating small vessels.
  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.
  • Baseline (or higher) AGSVA Security Clearance.
