Who we are

NORSTA Maritime is the Regional Maintenance Provider for the Regional Maintenance Centre North-East, delivering project management capabilities, technical expertise and quality assurance activities for the Royal Australian Navy fleet.

Our advanced maritime sustainment planning coordinates fleet maintenance at scale across Far North Queensland, including Northern Australia and adjacent waters for the Commonwealth of Australia.

Due to demand for our services, we are expanding rapidly and developing further capacity for more vessel platforms, including ABF vessels.

NOTE: Due to NORSTA Maritime's position as a Department of Defence contractor, we require all employees to be Australian citizens and able to hold a minimum Baseline Security Clearance with the ability to obtain access passes to HMAS Cairns and Cairns-based shipyards.

About the role

As Unplanned/Expeditionary Project Manager, you will work with a team of experienced maritime maintenance engineering and support staff to deliver maintenance services to ABF vessels. You will report to the Maintenance Delivery Manager.

Your responsibilities include:


  • Lead and participate in maintenance planning activities.

  • Ensuring delivery of unplanned maintenance runs to schedule and on budget.

  • Manage sub-contractors during maintenance activities.

  • Manage and ensure compliance around legislative and contractual requirements in relation to maintenance activities, including capturing evidence (OQE) and completion of reports in the Data Management System (DMS).

  • Engagement with key stakeholders and supply chain.

  • Report and analyse maintenance and technical data.

About you

As a professional with experience in maritime asset management, you will be an exceptional leader with excellent interpersonal skills. With demonstrated experience in maritime sustainment, you are able to show successful, seaworthy projects, either in the commercial world or Defence realm. It would be desirable if you had knowledge and understanding of RAN engineering management tools and processes. You have an analytical mind-set, able to report using existing data sets to show solutions and the way forward in an accessible and knowledgeable manner. You are engaging and able to communicate with stakeholders from all backgrounds, from suppliers to government officials. Internal stakeholders respect your opinion and enjoy working with you as you are collaborative and bring out the best in people.

The role is an initial six-month fixed-term contract but is highly likely to be extended for the life of the project with possible permanent placement.

Essential qualifications


  • Minimum diploma in a trade or technical background.

  • At least five years' demonstrated experience in project management in maritime sustainment

  • Baseline Clearance
